Chapter 17 - COREY

Dump the Sub

I feel sick. So fucking sick. Jesus Christ! I reminded her of Flynn.

I knew immediately when I first grabbed her arm that she had a problem with it. The guys and I have all talked about this over the past few weeks. If we notice a trigger, we want to try to push her so she knows she’s safe with us.

I didn’t know why it was a trigger, but I recognized it almost immediately. Really wish I could go back to hunt that motherfucker down and kick his ass again.

Anthony is seething, and Bryant looks like he’s trying not to show our girl how pissed he is by chewing on his cheek and grinding his teeth. It’s not working.

“Guys, calm down. She thinks you’re mad at her,” I tell them. Then to her I say, “Kitten, we aren’t mad at you. It’s Flynn and the whole fucking situation that we’re pissed at. Promise.”

I don’t think she believes me because I can see her start to tremble. Anthony holds her a little closer and kisses her on the top of her head, telling her the same thing, “Swear, Haze… not mad at you.”

She clears her throat before continuing, “It’s okay if you are. It’s all so messed up.”

“NOT mad at you,” I repeat Anthony.

Anthony tilts her chin to force her to look up at him. We wait while he studies her before leaning down, giving her a soft kiss, and then asks her, “Would you tell us why it reminded you of Flynn?”

It’s crazy that we never felt jealousy while watching one of the others with her. We didn’t in the past, and I’m positive there isn’t any now. So, I’m not at all upset when it’s Anthony who is able to focus her back on the topic on hand, while we all wait for her answer.

She starts explaining in such a quiet voice that I have to lean forward to hear her. “So, uhhh… that night, Flynn held my hands out by my wrists. He stopped me from being able to move away.”

She’s not looking at Anthony when she answers him. Glancing our way briefly, it’s obvious she’s nervous for our response.

We still don’t know exactly what happened to her that night. Just what we could glean from the minute that Anthony saw and the overview of her injuries we learned from Hunter.

We all are desperate to know, but aren’t sure how to ask. I suppose she’ll tell us when she’s ready. She’s keeping it to herself pretty tightly, so I don’t know when we’ll get there.

Bryant reaches over to squeeze her hand, silently letting her know that she’s okay; that we aren’t going to fly off the handle every time she tells us something we don’t like.

I watch as she gives Bryant an honest to God real smile, even though another few tears escape. Damn, she looks exhausted. I feel guilty for wearing her out like this, and being the cause of it. But I don’t regret it.
